Managing Domains
We will now move onto using some of the administration tools that are supplied with Windows NT Server. Specifically, we will use the following tools

Server Manager
User Manager
Event Viewer
Disk Administrator
System Policy Editor
Performance Monitor
DHCP Administrator
WINS Administrator

SERVER MANAGER
This tool is for managing servers in a Windows NT domain. The features it provides are,
promote a BDC to PDC
synchronize the domain [PDC accounts database to every BDC]
add a computer to the domain
view resources on a server
view, create, change permissions on shares
start and stop services on a server
view the computers in the domain

Server Manager is started by

	Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Server Manager

Within the window of Server Manager, it lists the various computers it has detected on the current domain. The name of the domain currently selected is shown in the top title of the window. This is shown as RS232 in the example below.

	Cubes -	PDC
Cubes with monitors	- BDC or NT Server
	Computer - NT Workstations

If the icons are grayed out, these computers are members of the domain but are currently inactive.

The Options Menu
This allows you to selectively view according to
servers
workstations
domain members
all computers
